“The best coffee in the world will grow on top of the mountain and can only be harvested at the peak of the crop,  to produce that you need knowhow, dedication and patience!” - Jean Heylen

Here are a couples of reasons why we choose this name, it might make you understand us better...

"Intergalactic Green Coffee Merchants" came in second but we figured this would lead to too many misspellings.
Also we had no plan for an eventual order from Mars or other planets. We were also a bit afraid of being labelled as a trekky … which we are not at all!

Coffee is a seasonal product and the best,  or most intense, coffee grows on the top of the mountain. Since it is our mission (you understand intergalactic better now) to bring the best coffees to our roaster friends we need to focus on the top of the mountain (and beyond).

In order to have great coffee you need patience,  when it’s harvest/crop time the coffee farmers will focus on getting the ripe cherries (red in most cases).  The best ones will come in the middle to second half of the crop,  since they will come also from higher growing areas.
So the top of the crop is the best moment to select the best coffees from the highest altitudes.

Since climate change is challenging the growth of coffee,  the top of the mountain will basically be the place to go for in the future.

"Heylen coffee" sounded a bit too narcissistic. We were also playing around with adding the word “finance” in it but that’s been done before and it would give the impression we’re a bank rather than a coffee specialist.

"Jean’s little green coffee paradise" sounded a bit too childish and the domain name was already taken.

It’s much more fun to find good merchandising for "Top of the Crop" ….

There are 52 coffee origins - try them!
